Performance
息吹 Ibuki – breath of life
10 May 2024
Japan days in Kaunas WA, Kaunas, Lithuania
KC Romuva, Great Hall
Collaboration with Tuuli Malla
As long as there is life, there is breath.
The Japanese word ibuki reflects the spring season and the circle of life. Through ibuki, potentials and opportunities are revealed, thus marking new beginnings. Also every breath can be seen as a new beginning. How do you listen to your own breath?
Yukina Yamamoto and Tuuli Malla have been exploring ibuki qualities through Japanese calligraphy and dance, embodying life’s cycles and breath with the body and calligraphy brush. The artists are also working with the connection between emotions and breath. Seeking pauses and peaceful moments, finding bursts of energy and sudden impulses. Transforming air with every breath.
As we share space, we share air. Can we feel air as a common element between us on stage and you in the audience? We are breathing in the same room, in the city, on a spring day.
